HAITI — Getting ready: Reflected in a mirror, Catholic priest Jean-Nicaise Millien changed clothes to start giving a Mass in Port-au-Prince on Sunday. Father Millien was kidnapped for 20 days along with other priests, nuns, and civilians in April by the 400 Mawoso gang who have been holding 17 members of a U.S.-based missionary group Christian Aid Ministries for more than 3 weeks.

CHILE — Burial: Family and friends took part in the burial of Jordan Llempi, a Mapuche Indigenous man who was killed during clashes with Chilean authorities in the southern region of Biobio, after the Chilean government had decreed a state of emergency and mobilized its forces in an attempt to reduce ongoing violence, in Cañete, on Sunday.

NEW HAMPSHIRE — Oldest hiker: M.J. Eberhart, 83, carefully made his way through large rocks while descending Mount Hayes on the Appalachian Trail on Sunday, Sept. 12, in Gorham. Eberhart, who goes by the trail name of Nimblewill Nomad, was the oldest person to hike the entire 2,193-mile Appalachian Trail.

CYPRUS — Warm weather: A couple enjoyed warm weather at Makenzi beach in the southern city of Larnaca, on Monday. Cyprus experienced summer-like heat in recent days with unseasonably high temperatures and clear skies, prompting many to hit the east Mediterranean island nation’s beaches.
