RUSSIA — Nobel Peace Prize: Colleagues pour champagne on Novaya Gazeta editor Dmitry Muratov at the Novaya Gazeta newspaper, in Moscow, on Friday. The 2021 Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to journalists Maria Ressa of the Philippines and Dmitry Muratov of Russia. The Norwegian Nobel Committee cited their fight for freedom of expression, stressing that it is vital in promoting peace.

UNITED KINGDOM — “Imagine”: A life-size sculpture of John Lennon entitled “Imagine,” was positioned in Carnaby Street, London, on Friday. Created in 2009 by acclaimed American/British sculptor, poet, playwright, lyricist, novelist, and actor, Lawrence Holofcener, who passed away in 2017, the sculpture found a new location — outside of the world famous Liberty London store.

Assailants fatally shot two schoolteachers in Indian-controlled Kashmir on Thursday in a sudden rise in targeted killings of civilians in the disputed region, police said.

BRAZIL — Protest: A Brazilian flag hung on a clothesline on Copacabana beach amid white scarves that represented those who have died of COVID-19 in Rio de Janeiro, on Friday. The action was organized by the NGO “Rio de Paz” to protest the government’s handling of the pandemic as the country neared a total of 600,000 COVID-19 related deaths.
