MOROCCO — Election: Election officials waited for voters inside a polling station, in Rabat, on Wednesday. Moroccans voted for a new parliament and new local leaders in elections reshaped by the pandemic. Candidates promised to create jobs and boost Morocco’s economy, education, and health care. The governing Islamist party is eyeing a third term at the helm of the government if it again wins the most parliament seats.

PHILIPPINES — Tropical storm Conson: People used umbrellas as they crossed a bridge during a heavy downpour caused by severe tropical storm Conson in Manila, on Wednesday. Typhoon Conson slammed into the eastern Philippines, causing power outages, suspension of work in government offices, and flooding in some areas on Tuesday. The weather bureau later said Conson weakened into a severe tropical storm.

MALAYSIA — Reopening: Movie cinema staff sprayed disinfectant in preparation for its reopening at a shopping mall in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday. Malaysia’s government announced the reopening of most entertainment and art sectors to fully vaccinated individuals in all states beginning Sept 9.

MEXICO — Earthquake: Health workers checked their mobile phones as they stood outside Veracruz General Hospital after a strong earthquake, in Veracruz, on Tuesday. The quake struck southern Mexico near the resort of Acapulco, causing buildings to rock and sway in Mexico City nearly 200 miles away.
