INDIA — Locked out: Police detained youth congress party workers during a protest outside Twitter’s office in New Delhi, on Monday. The protest was against Twitter temporarily locking Congress party leader Rahul Gandhi’s account after he tweeted a photograph of him meeting the family of a Dalit girl who was allegedly raped before being killed.

WASHINGTON — Border crossing: Rupinder Kaur, of Ferndale, Wash., held her son, Gourev Singh, 7 months old, as she stretched her legs while other family members waited in the line of cars to cross into Canada at the Peace Arch border crossing on Monday, in Blaine. Canada lifted its prohibition on Americans crossing the border to shop, vacation, or visit but America kept similar restrictions in place, part of a bumpy return to normalcy from coronavirus travel bans.

TURKEY — Wildfire: A helicopter participated in a wildfire extinguishing operation, in Koycegiz, Mugla, on Monday. Wildfires in Turkey, described as Turkey’s worst in living memory, started on July 28 amid a ferocious heatwave and raged on for days across more than half of Turkey’s provinces.

BRAZIL — Convoy: Supporters of Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro cheered with a Brazilian flag as protesters in opposition to the president held flowers to give to soldiers from a military convoy that passed Planalto presidential palace and parked outside the Navy headquarters in Brasilia, on Tuesday. The convoy rolled into the capital in a show of support for Bolsonaro that coincided with a key congress vote on a constitutional reform proposal that would add printed receipts to some of the nation’s electronic ballot boxes.

FRANCE — New team: Lionel Messi waved after arriving at Le Bourget airport, north of Paris, on Tuesday. Messi finalized an agreement on his Paris Saint-Germain contract and flew to France on Tuesday to complete the move that confirms the end of a career-long association with Barcelona.
