ROBERT FROST, the quintessential American poet, was born on this day in 1874 in San Francisco and died in Boston in 1963. Known for his bucolic verse that provided a window into the American experience, Frost recited his poem “The Gift Outright” at the inauguration of President John F. Kennedy.

ACTOR LEONARD NIMOY was born on this day in 1931 in Boston and died in Los Angeles in 2015. Nimoy, who was best known for portraying the iconic Mr. Spock on “Star Trek,” performed in the Yiddish theater in his early days, and later recited the renowned “To Be or Not to Be” soliloquy from “Hamlet” in Yiddish.

PLAYWRIGHT TENNESSEE WILLIAMS was born on this day in 1911 in Columbus, Mississippi, and died in New York City in 1983. Williams was known for such plays as “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof,” “The Glass Menagerie” and “A Streetcar Named Desire.” The character Blanche Dubois from “Streetcar” was written for actress Tallulah Bankhead and was famously portrayed by Vivien Leigh, arguably best known for playing Scarlett O’Hara in “Gone with the Wind.”
