BOSNIA — Remnants of the fire: A migrant walked past burnt down buildings during a snowfall at the Lipa camp, outside Bihac, Monday. Aid workers said migrants staying at the camp in northwestern Bosnia have complained of respiratory and skin diseases after spending days in make-shift tents and containers amid freezing weather and snow blizzards. Most of the hundreds of migrants at the Lipa facility near Bosnia’s border with Croatia have been accommodated in heated military tents following days of uncertainty after a fire gutted most of the camp on Dec. 23.

PARAGUAY — Waiting: A fisherman waited for a bite in the Paraguay River near Puerto Pabla, Tuesday. On the heels of last year’s record drought, fishermen said that their catches have plummeted and now their trade only allows them to feed their families. Buyers have been traveling hundreds of miles downstream to buy from other fishermen who work by a dam that traps what little fish are left, they said.

PHILIPPINES — Path of destruction: An aerial view of damaged houses at the base of Taal volcano almost a year after it erupted in Batangas province, Sunday. A popular tourist destination just south of Manila because of its picturesque setting in the middle of a lake, Taal erupted on Jan. 12, 2020. The eruption displaced thousands of villagers living near the area and delivered an early crisis this year for one of the world’s most disaster-prone nations a couple of months before the COVID-19 pandemic broke in the country.
