Statement on the passing of Samuel Dunston

The Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Samuel Dunston, a long-time friend and colleague who was very active with our organization over theĀ  past several decades. Sam served as a Brooklyn Chamber Board Member and was co-founderĀ  of our Minority and Women Business Enterprise Committee. Sam was an honoree atĀ  our Black History Month Celebration this past February, where we proudly announced theĀ  establishment of the Samuel Dunston Business Excellence Award, whose first recipient was Dr. Roy Hastick, who we lost shortly after in April.Ā

Sam Dunston was President and Founder of National Allotment Insurance Agency, formed inĀ  the 1970ā€™s. Under his leadership, National Allotment formed strong relationships with theĀ  nationā€™s most prestigious insurance carriers, earning National Allotment the highest ratings fromĀ  Standard & Poorā€™s and AM Best Company. Sam received numerous awards for his work in theĀ  insurance field, and for his extensive advocacy work with minority business owners.Ā Ā
