A VOICE FOR THE AGES: Jenny Lind was born 200 years ago today. The acclaimed opera singer, known as “the Swedish Nightingale,” toured the European continent in the 1840s. After a brief retirement at age 29, she resumed her career with a popular American concert tour at the behest of showman P.T. Barnum in 1850. She died in 1887. She was portrayed by Rebecca Ferguson in the 2017 film “The Greatest Showman.”

GREAT CHEMISTRY: Florence Seibert was born on this day in 1897. The biochemist from Pennsylvania developed the test for tuberculosis that was adopted by the U.S. and used worldwide by the World Health Organization. She was inducted into the National Women’s Hall of Fame in 1990 and died in 1991.
