Assemblymember Joe Lentol on Monday announced the upcoming opening of the Under the K Bridge Park, which will take place in early July.

After months in quarantine and as the City opens the second phase of reopening, the Park will give families, children, and individuals increased access to open space.

The Under the K Bridge Park has been created by Assemblymember Lentol and Gov. Andrew Cuomo, and is managed by the North Brooklyn Parks Alliance. It will provide additional open space to offer creative and artistic programming, including that specifically designed for children and youth.

The Park is located on seven acres of land beneath the Kosciuszko Bridge. Plans for its design were revealed in June 2019, according to Greenpointers.

The Under the K Bridge Park’s design resembles that of Toronto’s Bentway Park and is designed to bring world-class programming to Greenpoint, Williamsburg and beyond.

“With the official start of summer here, we must work to allow safe and responsible access to open space for families, children, and individuals,” said Lentol. “I’ve helped to establish three parks in North Brooklyn: East River State Park, Bushwick Inlet Park, and now the Under the K Bridge Park.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has shown that access to open space is crucial to the health and well-being of our community,” he added.

Details on the upcoming opening are being finalized, according to Lentol, who lauded Gov. Cuomo’s executive staff, the New York State Department of Transportation and the North Brooklyn Parks Alliance for their work on the project.
