A court officer from Harlem lost an arm after he suffered from COVID-19, and his colleagues in the Latino Court Officers Society have raised more than $40,000 for him.

Anibal Ortiz, a 53-year-old who has worked as a court officer for 16 years, suffered from a blood clot that forced doctors to amputate part of his left arm.

With so many affected, the Latino Court Officers Society quickly mobilized to raise funds to help him.

Since then donations of all sizes have come in, including $1,000 from the executive board of the Supreme Court Officers Association.

The group’s virtual fundraiser ended Friday, June 12.
