NEW KID IN TOWN: George Herman “Babe” Ruth made his professional pitching debut on this day in 1914. Playing for the minor league Baltimore Orioles in his hometown, he allowed just six hits and contributed a pair of singles in shutting out the Buffalo Bisons, 6-0. Ruth made his major league debut with the Boston Red Sox that July.
