Asian-Americans talk about fear of coronavirus fallout
SOUTHWEST BROOKLYN — There are no confirmed cases of the potentially deadly coronavirus in New York City as of yet, but fear and panic are rapidly spreading throughout the five boroughs, particularly in Asian-American neighborhoods, according to Southwest Brooklyn community leaders who are urging residents to remain calm.
The fear is palpable in neighborhoods like Bensonhurst, which have large populations of Chinese-Americans, community leaders said.
“There is a lot of misunderstanding about the coronavirus. People think that everyone from China has it. That’s not true!” Dr. Tim Law, a member of the Brooklyn Chinese-American Social Services Center, told the Home Reporter on Feb. 6.
