The basis of the judge’s decision was the detective work of Louis Scarcella and his partner Stephen Chmil, who have been involved in several cases where convictions have been overturned.

Our reporter Noah Goldberg told Brooklyn This Week about the scene at the courthouse, and Michael Baum of Brooklyn Defender Services explained how these cases came under review, while also speaking on Scarcella’s legacy.
