A man and woman were found shot to death inside their 10th-floor Fort Greene apartment late Sunday night, police said Monday.

Police responded to a 911 call of “harassment in progress” at an apartment building just outside the Brooklyn Navy Yard on Clermont Avenue. When they arrived, cops found the couple dead, both with gunshot wounds to the head.

The man shot his girlfriend and then turned the gun on himself, according to the New York Daily News. A spokesperson for the NYPD could not confirm the News‘ reporting Monday morning.

“I heard gunshots and I thought it was what I was watching on my phone,” said Melanie, a 19-year-old who lives on the eighth floor of the building where the shooting happened. Melanie said she heard two or three gunshots and a woman screaming and that police arrived a few minutes later.

“Something is always happening here, so I’m not really surprised,” she said.

A van from NYPD’s crime scene unit remained parked outside the building Monday.

The deaths have not been classified by the NYPD as homicides.

The deaths occurred in Brooklyn’s 88th Precinct, where there have been no murders yet this year, as of Sept. 8, according to police statistics.

Shootings and murders have continued to trend downward borough-wide in 2019, though they have been up slightly in Northern Brooklyn precincts so far.
