THE LEDE: Good morning! The second and final span of the new Kosciuszko Bridge opens to traffic tomorrow and under the Brooklyn side of the crossing, Greenpoint can soon look forward to seven acres of parkland. Coupled with the construction of the new bridge, the state dedicated the land parcel and $6 million to help create the brand new green space.

~SEVEN ACRES OF PARKLAND TO OPEN UNDER NEW KOSCIUSZKO BRIDGE: As the second and final span of the new Kosciuszko Bridge opens this week, the state announced it is handing over seven acres of land under the Brooklyn side of the bridge in Greenpoint. The land parcel — along with $6 million in state funding — will help create brand new parkland.

~WEST INDIAN DAY PARADE 2019 TO TAKE PLACE SEPT. 2: The blockbuster West Indian Day Parade is poised to return to Eastern Parkway on Labor Day, Sept. 2, and organizers hope to attract a larger crowd than in the recent past.

~PANEL RECOMMENDS PHASING OUT GIFTED PROGRAMS IN CITY SCHOOLS: A group of educators hope to desegregate city schools by phasing out the Department of Education’s “gifted and talented” programs and pulling back on school screening, among other recommendations.

~COMEDY, CRAFTS AND CARIBBEAN CUISINE ON FLATBUSH AVENUE: Labor Day is coming soon and with it, the West Indian Day Parade. Spectators who want to go to the festivities wearing flag-themed clothing that pays homage to a Caribbean country can buy it on Flatbush Avenue.
