THE RUNDOWN

~ TENS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS GO TO LOBBYISTS IN THE FIGHT OVER CITY’S JAIL PLAN: Neighborhood opponents of Mayor Bill de Blasio’s plan to rebuild and expand a jail in Boerum Hill have spent more than $30,000 on a “boutique government affairs” lobbyist to sway the city toward building a smaller Brooklyn lockup — or toward scrapping the plan altogether.

~ LONG-AWAITED BROOKLYN WATERFRONT GREENWAY GETS 2021 FINISH DATE: After 15 years of piecemeal construction, the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway, a 26-mile protected route for walkers and bikers, will finally be completed by 2021 as part of Mayor Bill de Blasio’s new bike plan.

~ EIGHT YEARS AFTER SANDY, NO FIX IN SIGHT FOR ROTTING ABANDONED HOMES: The smell of rotting wood hangs over the row of houses like a cloud, and one resident has recently begun finding needles in and around them. She says they’ve become home to squatters who come at night to sleep.

~ SUNSET PARK WILL GET PROTECTED BIKE LANES BY THE END OF THE YEAR, DOT SAYS: Fourth Avenue in Sunset Park will have protected bike lanes by the end of the year. The city’s Department of Transportation has made significant progress on the project, according to DOT CommissionerPolly Trottenberg and Councilmember Carlos Menchaca.

~ A CURE FOR THE COMMON BREAKFAST IN KENSINGTON: At Kabir’s Bakery, you can order an overwhelming amount of food for very little money. If something has just come out of the fryer, you’ll want that. The chicken roll is an outstanding breakfast option, reminiscent of an edgier Chinese take-out egg roll.

~ COME STROLL AROUND PACIFIC PARK: We took a tour around Pacific Park where we saw apartment buildings, a smidgen of green space and, of course, Barclays Center.

~ CONCERNS IN RED HOOK AND GOWANUS COULD SLOW DOWN BROOKLYN SCHOOL REZONING PLANS: A coalition of Brooklyn activists is asking the education department to hit pause on a plan to overhaul elementary school attendance zones, saying more community input is necessary. (Chalkbeat)

PODCAST

~ EXPLORING THE CITY PROGRAM RESIDENTS CALL ‘DEED THEFT’: The city’s Third Party Transfer program just went through a city council probe, still faces a class-action lawsuit, and may yet come under a federal investigation.
