Mock trial team from Brooklyn Tech finishes top eight in state tournament
A team of high school students from Brooklyn Technical High School in Fort Greene finished among the top eight finalists in the New York State Mock Trial Tournament hosted by the New York State Bar Association (NYSBA) in Albany on May 20 and 21.
Fayetteville-Manlius High School from Onondaga County was the winner of the tournament, Justice Mae D’Agostino, a U.S. District Court judge for the Northern District of New York ,announced.
“It is a privilege to be surrounded by excellence,” said NYSBA President-elect Henry Greenberg. “Eight teams out of 400 — I am overwhelmed by your commitment and your extraordinary achievement.”
“Being a lawyer is the most influential and consequential profession,” said Greenberg, who urged all of the students to go on to law school. “It has the greatest impact.
“Lawyers are problem solvers. We are the foot soldiers of the Constitution.”
Brooklyn Tech was one of eight regional finalists to compete in Monday’s semifinal. The contest is judged by members of the NYSBA’s Committee on Law, Youth and Citizenship.
