Bronx mom arrested, her son charged with murder, in Midwood stabbing death of teen

A Bronx woman was arrested and her son was charged with murder in Monday’s broad-daylight stabbing of a 17-year-old boy, police said Wednesday.
Barbara Galloza, 38, was charged with tampering with physical evidence and hindering prosecution, and her teenage son, David Lopez, was charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon for the Midwood stabbing of Rohan Burke – just down the block from Edward R. Murrow High School.
After Lopez stabbed Burke in the neck, Galloza allegedly grabbed the knife out of her son’s hands and ran away with it, according to a criminal complaint filed in Brooklyn Criminal Court.
Galloza later refused to reveal where the knife was to police officers, according to the complaint.

Burke, who was a student at the Lafayette Educational Complex in Gravesend, was stabbed around 4 p.m. on Avenue M and East 17th St. He stumbled into a nearby pizzeria crying “‘I don’t like it. I don’t want it,’” according to Ayhan Percin, the pizzaiolo at Pizza-Gyro-Grill, a popular after school hangout for students.
Burke was taken to Maimonides Hospital. He later died of his wounds.
Update (3:10 p.m.): Details from the criminal complaint were added to the story.
