A Seagate man was sentenced to 20 years to life in prison after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting his ex-girlfriend and murdering her friend in a 2017 home invasion.

Ruslan Baimov broke into his ex-girlfriend’s Seagate apartment around midnight on Oct. 29, 2017, by pushing in an air-conditioning unit. She had recently ended their relationship, according to the Brooklyn district attorney.

His ex-girlfriend was taking a shower when he entered, and when she came out of the bathroom, Baimov was holding a knife to the throat of her friend, Larysa Saad, prosecutors said.

Baimov slit Saad’s throat and she bled out on the floor. He then cut off his ex-girlfriend’s clothing, cut her body and raped her.

Baimov’s ex-girlfriend’s 11-year-old daughter was in the apartment at the time. She hid in a bedroom for five hours while Baimov remained in the apartment.

“This was a terrifying attack that left an innocent woman dead, another woman brutally assaulted and a child forever traumatized,” said Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez.

“The defendant inflicted unimaginable violence on this family. Today’s lengthy prison sentence is a step toward justice for the victims in this case.”

Larysa Saad died a week after the attack at Coney Island Hospital.

Baimov pleaded guilty to murder and predatory sexual assault April 8, the Brooklyn DA said.

While Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Vincent Del Giudice agreed to lowering the severity of the sentence to 20 years to life in Baimov’s plea agreement, he made it clear that he did not believe that the man should ever be released from prison.

“It would be a crime in and of itself,” Del Giudice said.
