NOTABLE PEOPLE born on this day include singer Johnny Cash, who was born in 1932, Erykah Badu, who was born in 1972; singer Michael Bolton, who was born in 1953; sportscaster and Hall of Fame football player Marshall Faulk, who was born in 1973; and U.S. Senator Tim Kaine, who was born in 1958.

TODAY IS THE ANNIVERSARY OF THE FIRST BOMBING OF NEW YORK CITY’S WORLD TRADE CENTER IN 1993. That act of terrorism, which occurred in a garage underneath the twin towers when a truck bomb exploded, killed six people, and injured over 1,000, many of whom were treated for smoke inhalation.

GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK WAS ESTABLISHED ON THIS DAY IN 1919, through an act of Congress. Ten years later, Congress established Grand Teton National Park on this day in 1929.

ELIZABETHAN DRAMATIST CHRISTOPHER MARLOWE WAS BORN ON THIS DAY IN 1564. Marlowe, a contemporary of Shakespeare who died mysteriously in 1593, was best known for his play “Doctor Faustus.”

JOHNNY CASH WAS BORN ON THIS DAY IN 1932. The renowned country singer, whose career dated from the 1950s till 2003, the year of his death, recorded over 1,500 songs, including the immortal “I Walk the Line” and “A Boy Named Sue.”
