ON THIS DAY IN 1917, BRITISH AUTHOR ANTHONY BURGESS WAS BORN. Burgess, perhaps best known for the novella “A Clockwork Orange,” which was made into a movie in 1971 by director Stanley Kubrick. Burgess died in 1993 in London, England.

ON THIS DAY IN 1943, BEATLES LEAD GUITARIST GEORGE HARRISON WAS BORN. Harrison, along with fellow Liverpool natives Paul McCartney, John Lennon and Ringo Starr, changed rock music forever as a member of what is widely believed to be the most influential rock-and-roll group of all time. Harrison died in Los Angeles, Cal., in 2001.
