Mayor de Blasio appoints and reappoints 46 judges to NYC courts

A new year means new judges in New York City, as Mayor Bill de Blasio officially appointed and reappointed 46 judges to the Family, Criminal and Civil courts. In total, 13 judges on the list are new hires, and 33, including Brooklyn Supreme Court Judge Danny Chun, are being reappointed.

“An impartial justice system is essential to building a fairer city for all,” de Blasio said. “The 13 judges I am appointing — and the 33 I am welcoming back — will represent the people of our city with fair and effective judicial oversight of our courts.”

Among those reappointed was Hon. Danny Chun, who has served as a Criminal Court judge since 1999 and is now back as an acting Supreme Court justice. Hon. Michael Yavinsky, supervising judge of the Brooklyn Criminal Court, was also among the reappointments.

Other reappointments include Hon. Maria Arias and Hon. Helene Sacco to the Family Court; and Hon. Deepa Ambekar, Hon. Jeffrey Gershuny and Hon. Jonathan Shim to the Civil Court.

Reappointments in the Criminal Court include Hon. Stephen Antignani, Hon. Heidi Cesare, Hon. Abraham Clott, Hon. Lenora Gerald, Hon. Joseph Gubbay, Hon. Diane Kiesel, Hon. Michael Kitsis, Hon. Donald Leo, Hon. Gene Lopez, Hon. Kevin McGrath, Hon. Raja Rajeswari, Hon. Neil Ross, Hon. Ann Scherzer, Hon. Toko Serita, Hon. Deborah Stevens Modica, Hon. Jane Tully and Hon. Alvin Yearwood.

New appointments in the Family Court include Hon. Keith Brown, Hon. Karen Cortes, Hon. Gregory Gliedman and Hon. Elizabeth Fassler.

The new Civil Court judges are Hon. Linda Capitti, Hon. Michael Gaffey, Hon. Wanda “Wendy” Licitra, Hon. Archana Rao, Hon. Robert Rosenthal, Hon. Quynda Santacroce, Hon. Audrey Stone, Hon. Jonathan Svetkey and Hon. Kerry Ward.

The new Criminal Court judges include Hon. Angela Badamo, Hon. Beth Beller, Hon. Michael Hartofilis, Hon. Marisol Martinez Alonso, Hon. Edwin Novillo, Hon. Adam Perlmutter, Hon. Jeffrey Rosenblueth, Hon. Ann Thompson and Hon. Jeffrey Zimmerman.
