Man shot in hallway of NYCHA building

A man was shot and killed on Thursday afternoon in the hallway of a NYCHA building in Clinton Hill.

William Ortiz, 30, was found in the 13th floor hallway of Lafayette Gardens at 433 Lafayette St. with multiple gunshot wounds to the chest, according to police.

He was rushed to Kings County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Residents of Lafayette Gardens came to the wounded man’s aid with towels and bandages to try to stop the bleeding. Spent shells were found on the floor near where Ortiz was shot.

According to police, Ortiz was not a resident of Lafayette Gardens but did live nearby. No suspect has been identified, and no motive has been established.
