A 77-year-old woman was struck and killed by a driver in Bath Beach.

According to authorities, on Wed., Jan. 2 at around 6:10 p.m., the woman was attempting to cross Cropsey Avenue midblock near Bay 32nd Street when she was struck by a 2019 Chevrolet Tahoe heading westbound on Cropsey Avenue.

NYPD and EMS rushed to the scene. The victim was taken to Coney Island Hospital where she was pronounced dead. The operator of the vehicle remained on scene.

Local residents say this is not the first time that someone has been hit by a car in the area.

“Around a year ago, three people got hit by a car on Bay 35th Street,” said Bensonhurst resident Daniel Martin. “It took them a whole year to put lights up over there. It’s crazy over here.  As you see, all the lights are green now, the (cars) race and can’t stop. It happens a lot at night because there’s not a lot of police going back and forth. People need to slow down. There’s too much speeding in this neighborhood.”

“It’s dangerous for people crossing the street,” agreed Said, another Bensonhurst resident. “The street is empty and people drive so fast and don’t focus if someone is walking or anything like that. I want to say to everybody to pay attention; the people crossing also have to pay attention because a lot of people don’t focus on the road but on their phone.”

No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.

The identity of the deceased is pending family notification.
