Riders Alliance pushes de Blasio to release Fair Fares plan
Transit advocates are expressing concern that the de Blasio administration isn’t doing enough to let the public know about the reduced MetroCard program known as Fair Fares that is coming in January and are calling on the mayor to use his bully pulpit to get the word out.
The Riders Alliance is one of 38 signatories on a Dec. 12 letter to Mayor Bill de Blasio that demands that he release a detailed plan on how his administration intends to let low-income New Yorkers know that starting in January, they will be able to purchase MetroCards to ride the city’s buses and subways at half price.
An exact date for the launch of Fair Fares has not been announced.
