Many people think of hot chocolate as something made with a powder bought in the supermarket. If you’re a hot chocolate aficionado, however, you’ll head for cafes that are especially known for the sweet treat.

Recently, Bklyner profiled five hot chocolate emporiums in North Brooklyn. Here they are:

  1. Davey’s Ice Cream at 201 Bedford Ave. and 74 Meserole Ave. While most people don’t want ice cream in the winter, the stores are worth visiting for their hot chocolate, available in both cups and shots.

  2. Toby’s Estate at 125 N. Sixth St. Toby’s has a new seasonal drink that is a spicy hot chocolate infused with a honey-chili syrup.

  3. Cacao Market at 67 Guernsey St. This store uses imported Honduran cacao to make its hot chocolate, which is available in both sweet and spicy versions.

  4. Cafe Grumpy at 193 Meserole Ave. Grumpy’s serves a traditional hot chocolate with what Bklyner calls “a classic latte art flair.”

  5. Mast Brothers at 111 N. Third St. Bklyner describes this hipster haven’s hot chocolate as “light, nearly effervescent cocoa.”
