A man accused of firing a gun inside an upstate New York hospital and setting off a massive manhunt has been indicted on attempted murder and robbery charges.

The Ulster County District Attorney’s office announced 42-year-old Joshua Stuart’s indictment Thursday.

Police say Stuart went to Ellenville Regional Hospital on Sept. 28 complaining of pain, and then shot an opioids dispenser and took vials of the drug before fleeing.

He later exchanged gunfire with police before running into the woods.

Prosecutors say Stuart broke into a home the following day, stole several items and took the homeowner’s car. He was later apprehended in Brooklyn.

Stuart’s defense attorney says his client is a longtime heroin addict.

He faces additional federal charges and is being held in federal custody in New York City.
