FDNY firefighters had to be called to pry open a locked polling station in Canarsie on Tuesday.
Neighborhood resident Jalessa Parris posted two videos to twitter showing firefighters using heavy-duty tools to pry open the doors of the Breukelen Community Center at 715 E. 105th St., according to NBCNewYork. She said that when she got to the polls at 8 a.m., people were already leaving out of frustration.
Firefighters first opened the doors at 6:30 a.m., but it proved to be to the wrong entrance. Shortly after 8 a.m., someone showed up with the key to the right entrance.
“It doesn’t make sense that one person had one key to open up this community center,” she told NBCNewYork.
