Washington Post spotlights three Brooklyn restaurants
Brooklyn’s diverse restaurant scene has attracted diners from everywhere. Now, the Washington Post has taken a look at “Where to Eat Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner in Brooklyn.”
Although there are hundreds of restaurants that could qualify, the Post has chosen three.
For breakfast, it spotlights Provence en Boite at 263 Smith St., Carroll Gardens, where diners can enjoy croissants, Croque Madame, chausson aux pommes and other gallic delights.
For lunch, we head to Boerum Hill’s Shelsky’s of Brooklyn, 141 Court St., which concentrates on what used to be called Jewish “appetizing store” cuisine. Here, you can get preserved fish, including schmaltz herring, nova lox, pastrami-cured salmon, smoked bluefish and more. These are often combined with other foods in specialty sandwiches such as “Member of the Tribe,” which includes Gaspe Nova lox with scallion or plain cream cheese served on a bagel.
For dinner, the Post takes you to Kiwiana, “Brooklyn’s only New Zealand restaurant” at 847 Union St. in Park Slope. Among the dishes served there are chilled sweet corn and crab soup, shallots and strawberries, seared salmon with vegetables and dill buttermilk sauce, and New Zealand rack of lamb with saffron rice.
