Pratt student captures ‘easy intimacy of Brooklyn’ on film

In a series of photographs, Emlyn Orr, a photographer studying at Pratt Institute in Clinton Hill, documents the small moments of human connection in the borough.
In one photo, two commuters on the bus sit back to back, looking in opposite directions yet only separated by a few inches of plastic seat. A girl cuddles with her cat; an artist pauses from her sketch to look out the window; a little girl dances at the feet of a statue in the park.
“What I like about cities, about Brooklyn, is that it’s hard to feel truly alone,” writes Orr. “No matter where you are, it’s expected that the noise of another human being will manage to find you.”
