Sad news came from Coney Island’s 60th Precinct on Monday morning, as it was announced the stray tabby cat taken in by the station had died after being hit by a car over the weekend.

Martin the tabby cat (nicknamed Marty), showed up injured at the back door of the precinct on Saturday morning after being hit by a mystery driver. The cops brought him to a nearby animal clinic where he later died.

Marty was originally dropped off at the station house on West Eighth Street and Surf Avenue in late 2016, and quickly became the resident morale-booster around the precinct, according to the New York Post. Officers around the station chipped in to make sure he ate well and got his shots.
