Last week, the mayor announced Grand Army Plaza will be getting some touchups — $8.9 million worth of touchups, to be exact.

The project will include a new roof for the Soldier and Sailors Memorial Arch, a repainted and cleaned structure, repairs for the interior staircases, replacements for the lighting and a revamp for all the surrounding landscaping, BK Reader reported.

The last restoration for the plaza was done almost 40 years ago.

According to BK Reader, the new project will be overseen by the Prospect Park Alliance. Sue Donahue, Alliance president, said that the nonprofit organization is “incredibly excited to be able to restore this public treasure to its original grandeur.”
