At I.S. 136 Charles Dewey School, on Thursday, July 26, 30 employees for the company behind the Brooklyn Nets helped school staff set up classrooms by cleaning out supply closets, and relocating chairs and desks throughout the building.

They removed old science books from the basement of the school, and helped ship those books to foreign schools and students in need. The volunteers also painted classrooms in preparation of the new school year.

The volunteers work for BSE Global, an Industry City-based company which owns and operates various sports teams like the Brooklyn Nets and NHL’s New York Islanders. In total, the organization enlisted over 250 of its employees to participate in its local “Give Back Day.”

“BSE Global selected 11 volunteer sites this year, the majority of which, like I.S. 136, were located in Sunset Park,” said BSEG Vice President of Communications Mandy Gutmann in an email. “We recently opened our new headquarters in Sunset Park’s Industry City, so we wanted to focus our efforts around those in need right in our backyard.”

BSE Global closed its offices for the day, and sent employees across Brooklyn and Long Island to help prepare meals for food banks, assist with school programs and clean up neighborhood parks.
