Chef Joaquin “Quino” Baca of the recently closed Williamsburg favorite Brooklyn Star plans to go back to his roots with a new restaurant at the Bushwick-Ridgewood border that will focus on izakaya-style (meaning Japanese gastropub-style) cooking.

Baca will soon open Teo, a 45-seat restaurant at 321 Starr St. between St. Nicholas and Cypress avenues, featuring “a few noodle dishes, lots of meat skewers and a few composed plates,” according to Eater New York. The chef worked at Noodle Bar, Momofuku Ssam Bar and Ko before opening Brooklyn Star with a partner.

“I certainly am not doing anything authentically Japanese. It’s very social, it’s fun, it’s boozy,” Baca told Eater. Teo is expected to open next month.
