A popular Bushwick taco restaurant and cantina was closed by health inspectors after they found filth flies, broken toilets, food being held at unsafe temperatures and workers handling food with their bare hands. The inspectors closed La Lupe at 9 Jefferson Ave. on Wednesday, according to Bushwick Patch.

During the inspection, the Mexican restaurant earned 83 points, or almost three times the number it takes a restaurant to earn a C grade. (The number of points being negative). Its tacos were rated the best in the neighborhood last fall by Bushwick Daily. La Lupe was also the name of a well-known Cuban-American singer who was known as the “Queen of Latin Soul” in the ’60 and ’70s, although it’s unclear if the restaurant was named after her.
