The Jamaican restaurant The Islands, which was once located in a cramped two-story location on the Crown Heights side of Washington Avenue, has moved to a new location down the street, at 671 Washington Ave. The food is reportedly as delectable as ever, this time in a larger dining room.

New York Times food writer Pete Wells, after a recent visit, praised the flattened fritters of salt cod seasoned with fresh hot chili, known as stamp and go; the curried goat as well as the curried vegetables; and the barbecued chicken, which he prefers to the jerk chicken even though he knows it will “sound like heresy to some customers.” Still, he praises the jerk shrimp and jerk leg of lamb, which he calls “especially alluring, stuffed with jerk spices and slowly roasted until its outer crust falls.” Most of the recipes are by co-owner Shuon Letchford, who also does a lot of the cooking.
