A 35-year-old man was arrested for allegedly severing the arm of his pregnant wife in Sunset Park.

Yong Lu was apprehended by the Niagara Falls Police Department (NFPD) while inside a food court in Niagara Falls on the evening of Saturday, June 23, just two days after he had run off following the alleged attack on his wife. The suspect was allegedly attempting to escape to Canada.

Cops say that at around 12 p.m. on Thursday, June 21 they received a call that 30-year-old Yang Li’s arm had been severed following a domestic dispute with Lu in a home on 55th Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenues.

Cops on scene reported that the woman’s right arm had been severed at the elbow as well as two fingers from her left hand. A cleaver was reportedly used in the assault.

Police sources told this paper Li was taken to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn before being transferred via an NYPD Harbor Unit to Bellevue Hospital where the police source says doctors have attempted to reattach the victim’s arm.

As of the evening of Friday, June 22, police sources said that the victim’s arm had been reattached.  “It’s attached but it’s going to take extensive rehabilitation,” the source confided.

Li is listed in critical but stable condition.

Police charged Lu with attempted murder, two counts of assault and criminal possession of a weapon. He was remanded by a judge on Monday, June 25 around 11:30 a.m.

The two have an eight-year-old child.

Chief Bryan Dalporto of the NFPD reported the arrest on Twitter.“Due to some excellent team work between law enforcement agencies, wanted suspect Yong Lu was located & apprehended in downtown Niagara Falls last night by NFPD,” Dalporto’s tweet read. “Very proud of the professionalism displayed by one of our newest officers! This is a text book arrest due to proactive policing during a potentially deadly situation that ended without force and the apprehension of a very dangerous suspect. And all with his NFPD 8 point hat on!”
