Green-Wood Cemetery hires manager of preservation and restoration

For the first time, Green-Wood Cemetery has hired a full-time manager of preservation and restoration. The manager, Neela Wickremesinghe, plans to establish a full-service restoration studio and hold workshops and presentations there, according to Brownstoner.
“We still have storm damage from Superstorm Sandy that we are sorting out,” she told Brownstoner. “We also have projects that require perpetual care and need regular maintenance.”
Wickremesinghe’s immediate goal is to take a full digital survey of the cemetery. So far, she and her three-person crew have worked on documenting the conditions of the monuments at the Cedar Dell section of the cemetery, which contains gravestones from a Dutch Reformed church that date from the 18th and early 19th centuries.
