The Department of Transportation dropped plans to reverse the flow of traffic on a street near McGolrick Park in Greenpoint after outcry from the community, City Limits reported.

DOT had proposed to change North Henry Street between Nassau and Norman avenues, the block north of the park, from northbound to southbound, but residents complained that the change would put park users at risk and increase the flow of traffic.

“This is about not disrupting our residential street where there’s children, there’s elderly and there’s a church,” said William J. Broderick, a North Henry Street resident who started a petition against the change.

DOT is still considering changes to a block on North Henry Street further north, but there is no timeline for when the plan might be implemented, the agency said.
