Community Board 7, which covers Sunset Park, is reportedly asking that officials who are planning the soon-to-be reactivated shipping hub at the South Brooklyn Marine Terminal conduct a study to determine how the facility would impact truck traffic in the already truck-congested neighborhood.

“We have a serious issue with truck traffic – the truck route on 20th Street has been on our docket for over a decade now,” board Chairman Cesar Zuniga told the Brooklyn Paper.

Last month, officials cheered the future use of the terminal, which hasn’t been used since the 1980s, as a development that will create more than 250 jobs as well as reduce 11,000 truck trips per year. However, board District Manager Jeremy Laufer said the figure for reduced truck trips refers to the entire metro area, not Sunset Park. “I would like to know what the numbers are locally,” he told the Brooklyn Paper.
