A convicted fraudster in federal prison recently wrote to a Brooklyn judge about a new development in his life. John Star, an inmate currently serving time in a Pennsylvania federal prison for mortgage fraud, wrote Brooklyn Federal Judge Leo Glasser about his new music single, “African Girl,” the Daily News reported.
Star told the paper that he wanted to “build the buzz by sharing” the news with Glasser. Star recorded the song acapella on a phone while in prison. It was later acquired by a Lagos-based producer, B Rhymes, who built the song around the phone recording. According to the Daily News, it’s an auto-tune R&B love song with lyrics: “You won my heart/Your beauty won me/I love you, my African girl.”
