Members of the Brooklyn Bar Association were in New Jersey on Monday for the sixth annual Theodore T. Jones Jr. Memorial Golf Outing at the Colonia Country Club. The outing is one of the biggest fundraisers of the year for the Brooklyn Bar Association Foundation, the group’s charitable arm.

“Our 6th Annual Theodore T. Jones golf outing was sold out and a great success,” said Aimee Richter, president of the association. “We had beautiful weather, a wonderful time was had by all and most importantly we raised money for the Brooklyn Bar Foundation which will allow us to keep doing the good work that we do.”

Jones, a former judge in the Court of Appeals and the only judge from Brooklyn ever appointed to that court, was considered a major figure within the association when he died in 2012. An avid golfer, the Colonia Country Club in Colonia, New Jersey, was his favorite course.

In each year since his death, the foundation has held the outing in order to raise funds, which it in turn uses for charitable purposes such as the annual scholarship given to a local law school student, the Brooklyn Legal Pipeline, which helps minority and women high school students get into law school; the law library and other public programs.

“Judge Jones keeps bringing us together year after year,” Richter said. “We couldn’t have had such a fantastic event without the hard work of our golf committee and a special thanks to Frank Carone, Greg Cerchione and John Lonuzzi for doing the heavy lifting.”

Last year, the foundation also donated money it raised to the Puerto Rican Bar Association, which used it to help donate electric generators to Puerto Rico following the devastation of Hurricane Maria.

Each year, the outing gives out awards for foursomes that come in first, second and third. This year, Greg Elefterakis, John Elefterakis, Jeff Antin and Mike Immet were in the winning foursome. Vincent Sciortino, Anthony Sciortino and Anthony Genovesi came in second; and John Connelly and James Sweitzer’s group came in third.

A pair of longest drive awards are also given out and awards for closest to the pin on for sponsored holes. John Monti and Billy Santo won for longest drive 50 and younger and 50 and older, respectively. Connelly won closest to the pin on hole two, Hon. Bernard Graham on the sixth hole, Genovesi on the 13th hole and Ted Pavlounis on the 16th hole. Genovesi’s shot on the 13th hole was the closest overall.
