Lawyers for accused drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman want to have his trial relocated to Manhattan federal court instead of the federal court in Downtown Brooklyn, per the Daily News.

Guzman is being held in Manhattan Correctional Center, and attorneys have filed a motion saying that a potential jury pool could be tainted by the “spectacle” of seeing Guzman driven across town and the inconvenience of “the traffic disruptions created” by his frequent high-security transfers. Guzman, the accused head of the Sinaloa drug cartel, has pleaded not guilty to murder and kidnapping charges. In related news, federal prosecutors are reportedly charging Guzman with the murder of seven U.S. citizens, including a Drug Enforcement Administration agent, in the 1980s.
