An employee of a Bay Ridge smoke shop was shot during a robbery inside the store late Wednesday evening.

Authorities say that at around 11:56 p.m., the suspect, described as a man wearing a scarf around his face, entered the shop near the corner of 72nd Street and Fifth Avenue and fired several shots, one striking the victim, a male employee, in the torso. The perp then fled the scene, having stolen an undetermined amount of cash.

The victim was rushed to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn where he is listed in stable condition.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.

According to Councilmember Justin Brannan, “The NYPD is looking for a white male, 5’9″, stocky build wearing khaki pants, beige shirt, dark scarf, sunglasses and dark ski hat,” he said. “I was up all night working with the NYPD 68 Precinct on this. The good news is this was an isolated incident and there is no cause for alarm. The bad news is we’ve got a shopkeeper in the hospital so please say a prayer and keep him in your thoughts.”

If anyone has information about the shooting, call the 68th Precinct Detective Squad at 718-439-4236.
