The Brooklyn Women’s Bar Association (BWBA) is set to celebrate its 100th anniversary on Monday, at Brooklyn Law School, where it will honor Chief Judge Janet DiFiore and Brooklyn Bar Association (BBA) President Aimee Richter.

DiFiore will receive the Centennial Award and Richter, the ninth female president in BBA’s history, will receive the Amy Wren Award.

Afterward, BWBA President Michele Mirman will host a panel titled “The Challenges, Hurdles, and Successes of Women Lawyers ‘What Now?'”

Panelists will include Hon. Dora L. Irizarry, Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of New York; Hon. Shira A. Scheindlin, retired justice of the Southern District; Edna Wells Handy, chief compliance officer at NYCHA; Letitia James, public advocate; and Stacy J. Kanter, partner at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher, & Flom, LLP.

The choice to use BLS is no coincidence. The original eight members who helped to create the BWBA were all former BLS students which prompted current members to seek out the venue. In addition, Nicholas W. Allard, president and Joseph Crea Dean at BLS, is expected to give the welcoming remarks.
