PHOTOS: Brooklyn Chamber celebrates at milestone centennial

In celebration of its centennial anniversary, the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce gathered with local politicians, members of the community and some of Brooklyn’s biggest stakeholders on Saturday, February 10 for an evening full of honors at the Brooklyn Marriott, 333 Adams Street.

Keeping with the theme of recognition, the Chamber, in turn, recognized six Brooklyn leaders/organizations for their outstanding contributions to the borough as well as for the transformative change they’ve continued to inspire boroughwide.

Among them were Pamela Brier, Robert Catell, Alan Fishman, Joseph Mattone Sr. and Bruce Ratner. Also recognized was the Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation, represented by Colvin Grannum.

The evening also served as a celebration of Brooklyn itself, which, according to the Chamber, is continuing on its path toward becoming the third most populous city in the United States.

“We are so proud of our accomplishments in the past 100 years,” said Chamber President and CEO Andrew Hoan, “but we know we still have more to do and we look forward to even greater accomplishments in the next 100 years.”

That planning, he said, is reflected in a recently released Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy for the borough in which the Chamber lays out its vision to support Brooklyn’s continued economic growth and ensure future growth is “equitable, sustainable and resilient.”

The Chamber was founded in February, 1918. It was named Chamber of the Year by the Business Council of New York State in 2017 and is highly regarded as the largest and fastest growing chamber in all five boroughs.

As for the celebration itself, Hoan said, “This was truly the ‘Party of the Century’ thanks to our tireless events department, Lori Raphael, George Quan and A.J. Siconolfi. We couldn’t have pulled off this centennial celebration without our amazing staff.”
