~CORPSE DISCOVERED IN HISTORIC BASEMENT AT FORMER LICH SITE IN COBBLE HILL: A man’s body was found on Thursday in the basement of a former Long Island College Hospital building undergoing conversion into luxury condos. Officers from Cobble Hill’s 76th Precinct found the body at roughly 2 p.m. on Feb. 8 at 350 Henry St., LICH’s former Polhemus Building. The man was originally thought to be a construction worker, but police told us that the deceased is not yet identified. The landmarked Polhemus Building is being renovated by Fortis Property Group. A spokesperson for Fortis told us, “To our knowledge, the individual was not associated with the development or any employee working at the site.” The spokesperson added, “This is a very unfortunate occurrence and at this early stage in the investigation we are working diligently to cooperate with local authorities to fully understand what took place.” (via Brooklyn Eagle)

~‘UNACCEPTABLE RANCOR’ BETWEEN ALBANY, NYC MUST STOP BEFORE BQE TRAFFIC DISASTER STRIKES: Brooklyn communities abutting the BQE will face local traffic calamities for years during reconstruction of the BQE if Gov. Andrew Cuomo and others in Albany do not intercede immediately to allow a fast-track contracting process. Officials at a rally inBrooklyn Heights on Friday said they are working now to head off the looming crisis. The seven-year reconstruction must be completed by 2026. If not, the city’s DOT may have to divert 16,000 trucks daily from the highway onto local streets, causing jams that will reverberate from Brooklyn to Staten Island and Queens. But Albany has not approved the use of a streamlined bidding process called “design-build,” which would allow the work to be completed as many as two years faster and $113 million cheaper. Brooklyn officials called the state’s stonewalling “insanity,” a sign of Albany’s dysfunction and a “political game.” (via Brooklyn Eagle)

~CHAMBER OF COMMERCE ASKS FOR BIG BROOKLYN GIFTS: In preparation for the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce’s centennial celebration, the business group released a development strategy report for the next 10 decades that looks to spruce up overlooked areas in the borough. Paid for by a $100,000 federal grant, the study calls for rezonings and policies to add more housing and commercial space. “We have to start asking what’s next for Brooklyn, and how do we make sure that this place stays as cool as it is, and as innovative as it is, and as welcoming,” said BCC President Andrew Hoan. Some proposals include a new “X” line that would use existing tracks to run trains from Bay Ridge through East New York into Queens and up to Yankee Stadium as well as a hospitality and culinary training center for southern Brooklyn residents during Coney Island’s winter slow down. (via Crain’s New York Business)

~REDDIT USER CREATES SUBWAY SANDWICH SUBWAY MAP: A 15-year-old transit lover did Brooklyn a favor and created a comprehensive subway map of the borough where each station is a Subway sandwich shop. The mapconsists of eight separate lines with 76 stations that connect Williamsburg toBay Ridge and run the perimeter of eastern and southern Brooklyn fromConey Island to Bushwick. Fellow users on the Brooklyn sub-Reddit reacted positively with comments like, “Surprisingly, this would be a better way to get around Brooklyn,” and “With this current MTA, anything that actually works would be better.” Isaiah Bryant from Toronto created the map after he saw a similar project in Waterloo, Ontario, he told Patch. (via Patch)
