
A Look Back: Sinkholes

While sinkholes seem to have dominated the headlines at various points in the past few years — with massive ones causing months-long shutdowns at 64th Street and Fifth Avenue and 92nd Street near Third Avenue, for example — they are hardly a new problem in southwest Brooklyn. This photo, from the files of this newspaper, shows a yawning sinkhole in Sunset Park that was literally large enough to swallow a truck.
