Olivia and Liam were the most popular names in New York City in 2016, according to the New York State Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, which announced the news just days before the end of 2017.

This is the second straight year that Olivia has taken top honors for girls. Of 58,735 girls’ birth certificates filed in the city that year, Olivia was the choice on 564 of them. It was also the most popular name for girls in 2015.

On the boys’ sides, Liam jumped from second place in 2015 to top honors in 2016. A total of 710 New York City boys received that name, out of 61,632 births.  Ethan was number one in 2015.

Runners up included Sophia, Emma and Isabella in second, third and fourth place respectively for girls, while Jacob, Ethan and Noah took second, third and fourth place for boys.

For the second straight year, in 2016, Brooklyn saw the greatest number of babies born, with 40,125 births out of 120,367 citywide, although the borough’s number was slightly down from the previous year’s 40,982.
