Brooklyn’s venerable Thomas Jefferson Democratic Club celebrated its 62nd anniversary gala at Mill Basin’s El Caribe Country Club on Sunday, November 19 with a large crowd of members and supporters.

A total of 489 people attended the event, according to Brooklyn Democratic Party Chair Frank Seddio, who described it as “One of our best successes in years.”

Among those in attendance were “all the city and county-wide elected officials,” said Seddio, there to join the club in paying tribute to honorees Joel Cohen, Thomas Jefferson Club Member of the Year; attorney Arthur Aidala, recognized for his community and charity work; Brooklyn United Federation of Teachers representative Liz Perez; and Allen Roskoff, the president of Manhattan’s Jim Owles Democratic Club, who received the Bernie Catcher Award, something that is presented “only occasionally,” according to Seddio, to someone who has amassed “a lifetime of achievement.”

Overall, “It was a very nice evening,” added Seddio. “The program was brief, then the music started and we danced the night away.”

El Caribe is located at 5945 Strickland Avenue.
